If you are just replacing one, its easy, but they dont go bad that
often - it might just require some lubrication. If you are wanting
to install one, where there was none, then you are over your
head - its very tricky and you can screw up your door.

For the most part it`s fairly simple. It definitely more technical than just turning a few screws and depending upon the brand, can be quite frustrating. Don`t get me wrong,I`m not attempting to dissuade you in your DIY experiance, I`m just giving you a heads up that you may possibly encounter a few problems not covered in the instructions. Before purchasing the deadbolt, ask an associate about the ease of installation aspects of the model you`re looking at. Sometimes they are actually smart enough to give you some advice on installation. Unless you`re an ultra security freak, I would stear away from double cylinder deadbolts. They will only compound your installation problem, and personally I think they`re a safety concern. If and when you make your attempt, the only installation points I would stress would be the correct positioning of the tailshaft through the bolt and proper alignment of the whole mechanism for free movement. These points should be covered in your instructions GOOD LUCK GRASSHOPPER!!!!!! Email if you wish

REPLACING a deadbolt is a piece of cake. It's a little tricky putting one in for the first time if you have to carve out the bolt hole in the jamb.

Replacing a deadbolt lock yourself is on the difficulty level of a first grade 10 piece puzzle.
Go to home depot or Ace hardware, tell one of the sales associates if you can find one what you want to do, they will walk you to the proper isle, show you different styles of deadbolts. Pick one that looks like the one you are replacing.
When you get home, follow the directions that comes with the new deadbolt. This should not take you more than 10 minutes. 5 minutes to read the directions three times, and 5 minutes to change the lock.

buy it and follow the directions, a screwdriver is all you need. 2 screws hold the lock in place and 2 screws hold the bolt and jamb plate in place, take out lock first then the jamb plate and bolt and replace with new one..if you do it once you will be able to do it again in about 3 to 5 minutes. go for it.

If you are just replacing one it is pretty easy. If you can read directions go for it. All you should need is a screwdriver. Pay attention to the setting in the directions because they are adaptable for different door thickness. Go ahead and buy one, then you'll be able to figure it out.

I would buy it and read the directions and see if it something you may be capable of and try. If that does not work, find a friend who would be able to help you and if not then go to home depot and ask one of the knowledgeable people that work there for some advice.

This is fare more than trespassing (a misdemeanor). This is first degree burglary. Entering an occupied dwelling with intent to commit a crime. He does not have to break in and technically he did break in by picking the lock, a sophisticated means of breaking in. The fact that you had roommates probably saved you from great harm. You are extremely lucky.
Three things to do. Put a dead bolt on your door that does not have outside access for a key.
Get a restraining order to protect you at home and at work.
Lodge a complaint against the officers. They did not do their job. Make sure the appropriate charge is put on the report and press charges against your X.. And yes, a report can be amended to the correct charge.

The "breaking" part of breaking and entering doesn't mean there has to be physical damage done in gaining entry. Simply pushing open a door that's slightly ajar is sufficient.

That being said, however, I'm a little curious as to whether he was at least charged with trespassing. If not, and you want to press charges, you might want to go straight to the magistrate's office in your jurisdiction and tell them what happened. When you do, take your roommate with you, too.

You really should get a restraining order (also known as a protective order in some states). The process for doing so varies from state to state, and can even differ slightly from jurisdiction to jurisdiction within the same state. To find out how to initiate a petition for a restraining order, call the clerk's office for the domestic relations/family court in your jurisdiction. They won't be able to give you any legal advice, but should at least be able to tell you whom you need to contact.

You need to try another locksmith, one who does automotive. The key has a chip...true. The valet key cannot be used to add keys...true. A valet key is a 'normal' key...false. Only the dealer can program keys/remotes...false.

An automotive locksmith can flash the ecu and program in new keys. It will require two master keys and one valet to be registered. Expensive, yes, but not $800.

Said locksmith can also clone the valet key to give you another working key. Valet keys in most cases will let you drive the car, but don't operate the locks of storage areas.

Your dealer just doesn't know how to do it or is to lazy. I just did this yesterday. You have to erase all the keys in the computer with the techstream. A scan tool we use. Then the computer will give out a 6 digit number. I had to take this number to my service manager. He had to get onto TIS online. Only he can get the new number. It gives him a new number. A seed number. Go back to the techstream and enter it in. This allows the computer to program that new key of yours as a master key. Its a process. It has to be done at the dealer, but can be done

1. You DID have another choice. You COULD have broken a window, or told him this up front and asked if he would wait until Monday to deposit the check. You just confessed to FRAUD.
2. If you don't do anything the check MAY not hit your account before Monday.
3. If it does, your bank MAY pay the check and charge you a fee without the locksmith ever knowing.
4. If your bank returns the check, the locksmith will probably allow you to cover the check, plus the fee their bank charged them for a returned check without additional issues.

DON'T make up a reason, they don't care. Check your account over the weekend. If the check did not process, you can cover it by depositing you pay Monday. If it has, go to the bank and ask if they can stop the check from bouncing if you cover it Monday morning. If all else fails, contact the locksmith and simply inform him the bank is returning the check and you want to make good in cash.

1. You DID have another choice. You COULD have broken a window, or told him this up front and asked if he would wait until Monday to deposit the check. You just confessed to FRAUD.
2. If you don’t do anything the check MAY not hit your account before Monday.
3. If it does, your bank MAY pay the check and charge you a fee without the locksmith ever knowing.
4. If your bank returns the check, the locksmith will probably allow you to cover the check, plus the fee their bank charged them for a returned check without additional issues.

DON’T make up a reason, they don’t care.

If you are scared to tell him the truth, call him and say you thought you had enough money to cover the check, and now realize you don't. Tell him not to cash the check til Monday. If you have more guts, you can just tell him the truth.

Call the guy and explain to him that you thought you had the funds available but you over spent for the pay period and you don't get paid until Monday. Ask him if its possible for him to wait until Monday for payment. No, he can say no and call the police on you for writing and bad check. Offer some interest to make it more appealing.

Just call him and say "I just took a look at my checkbook, and I wonder if you'd mind not cashing that check until Monday."

It's better to give him a heads up than to have him (and YOU) be charged NSF fees. He most likely won't mind waiting only one business day.

You said you had no choice. You most certainly do. Don't stick some poor guy with a bad check just because you don't have any money. If you would have asked him if you could pay him on payday he probably would have said OK. It's also illegal to knowingly pass a bad check. Better call him and hope he lets you off the hook until monday. You say don't judge you, how can a person not judge you for what you did.

Hi..
Why not contact him and ask him not to process the check until Monday because you've realized that there's not enough cash in your acct to cover it. If he doesn't like that, I'm not sure what else you can do. It would be better telling him than letting the check bounce, you'll have extra fees to deal with when/if that happens.

Hey, if you were my friend I'd have no problem helping you out. Do you have someone who could float you a few $ until Monday? Just another idea, I'd do that for my friend if asked. Sorry you're dealing with this, hope it works out ok!

Call the guy up ASAP and say you made a mistake, but you'll make it good. It's probably not the first time it ever happened to him. He won't like it, but he'll like it a lot more than a bounced check.

once the plastic cover is removed there is a small opening under the barrel that you need to stick a small screwdriver in while turning the key to the acc. pos. maybe go back and fourth while pulling it out of the column. let me know if it works. Good Luck!

Here's the problem. That vehicle is equipped with a VATS anti-theft system. The key itself has a resistance pellet that is read by the ignition switch to start the engine. The key needs to be replaced, but the key is matched to the ignition switch by resistance. If you have the original factory key blank, and enough of the broken key (so that the pellet's resistance can be determined), the dealership can cut you a new key (cannot be done from the VIN for this vehicle). If the blank is not available, the ignition switch w/ new key blank will have to be installed, and a new key cut. The switch w/ new key will cost around $80. The dealership, unfortunately, will charge you 2.5 hrs @ $90/hr labor. Independent shops do not have the VATS Interrogator unit which is used to determine key's resistance number. Hope this helps.
